NoCo WC Lahti & Kuopio

Kail Piho and Karl Tiirmaa competed at the pre-World Championships in Lahti (2017) last weekend. After the PCR on Thursday had to be cancelled due to bad wind conditions, the athletes had their first jumps on Friday morning. Like the training already showed, both Estonians couldn´t jump at World Cup level and so didn´t pass the qualification of the 50th best athletes.

On Saturday the team sprint event held up a new chance for Kail and Karl. The estonians became 18th after jumping with 4:12 behind the leading norwegians Jarl Riiber and Jan Schmid. Both athletes fought hard to catch the previous skiers and improved their position slowly. Unfortunately the estonian race was ended before the finish line, because of lapping of the leading group.

The Sunday competition started with a cancellation of the qualification, which meant that the race started with the results of the PCR from Friday. Like already mentioned Karl and Kail weren´t at the best positions there and so both decided to not start at the cross-country race in the afternoon.

Kail already travelled to Val di Fiemme to do some trainings. Karl joined the WC team and continued the season with the next event in Kuopio on Tuesday. There he was disqualified because of faulty equipment after jumping.

The World Cup already continues on Friday in Val di Fiemme with a new team sprint event.
